Driving Helmets by OhSadface Driving Helmets by OhSadface
OK so. I decided it would be a chipper idea to bring two of my great loves together. The 50’s dinner greaser and whatnot scene and Diving suits. Yes Bioshock was an influence in there as well but anyway. So I have been coming up with ideas of an underwater Diner called “The Dive” built In a submarine theme with lots of streamline grungy goodness. Having greaser gangs called things like “The Low Lives” and “ Land Lovers”. And then I thought How fun it would be to merge like cars and diving helmets. Like theme them off of hotrods and whatnot! So I did this. XD
I had a ton of fun playing with different designs here. I still have plenty of ideas like hotrods and helmets with flames and shit. It’s gonna bit of the chain dogz!!!!
Anyway these were sort of speed sketches each took about 20 mins to complete. And all are just for fun not function obviously before anyone goes ripping into me about science and crap. I will leave that to my father who was a hard hat diver in the navy and a car connoisseur sooo everything wrong will be addressed XD And yes a couple models have some similaritys to the Project Delta and the Big sister from Bioshock, This was unintentional.

Ok make and model time!

The Torpedo: Is based off of a 1940 Pontiac Torpedo. I think…. I actually didn’t write down what car I used from this one book and it ended looking like about 4 different models and I was lost XD But I like how this helmet came out 

The Edsel: Is based off of an 1959 Edsel Ranger  I really like the name Edsel. It just sounds like a serial killers car…I don’t know why. But the helmet was fun to design based off the Edsels unusual grill 

The Polara: Based off of a 1960 Dodge Polara. This one went through a couple of phases because it looked like a Power Ranger helmet….but it still does XDDDD

The Hornet: Based off of a 1951 Hudson Hornet. (insert pixars Cars jokes here) I mainly used this model because it had some really cool chrome work on the grill. But I don’t like how it ended up in the end :/

The Beetle: Hmmm I wonder what this one is? Oh an older Volkswagen Beetle model. Surprise surprise XD This one ended up looking like the Big sister Helmet in silhouette but it’s hard to get around that with a Beetle.

The Sedan: Is based off of a 1948 Ford super deluxe sedan. This is one of my favorite designs it’s like Nazi divers! idk…

The Commodore: Based off a 1947 Hudson Commodore. I thought the red would be a nice change 

The Zephyr: Based off of a 1940 Lincoln Zephyr.

The Eldorado: This one is loosely based off of a 1950 Cadillac Eldorado. I say loosly because it just plopped out of my head and I had to pin a car onto it XDDD It ended up being my favorite XD
